prison ministry
The Prison Ministry initiates and supports projects addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of inmates at Illinois correctional facilities.
Prison Ministry
St. Edna Prison Ministry will be hosting it’s first meeting of the 2026-27 season on Wednesday, September 23rd at 6:30 PM.
Almost all projects undertaken in this ministry are done on-site at St. Edna or from home. Some of the activities include sorting and packing donated items, attending monthly meetings, doing project research, and reaching out to administrative staff at Illinois state and county facilities to offer our help. Other projects we undertake include supporting individual carceral facilities with items for holiday celebrations, and at each meeting, we pray for our mission and for people in the prison system.
Throughout the year, members share current articles about the justice system and challenges facing both prisoners and those who care for them to add greater understanding of how we can help, and how to modify our activities to have the greatest impact. Each member chooses which projects or committees they will work on. You can volunteer for as many or as few project sessions as you are able.
Participating in St. Edna Prison Ministry offers meaningful moments to its members.
Some of our members were recruited by a friend to join our ministry. Others saw a notice similar to this one asking for volunteers to join us in our mission. If YOU are reading this and feel called to join us or would like to learn more about what we do, please attend our upcoming meeting on Wednesday September 23rd at 6:30 PM in the Hurley Center. Please join us!
