Knit and Crochet Ministry

The St. Edna Knit and Crochet Ministry is made up of women of various knitting and crocheting levels. We come together on Monday mornings to make prayer shawls, lap robes, scarves, hats and baby blankets.

More About the Ministry

What is a Prayer Shawl?

A shawl is crafted with prayers for your healing in mind, body, and spirit.  As you wrap this shawl around you, may you feel the warm embrace of our heavenly Father, and the love and support of the St. Edna Community, who are praying for you.

Prayer of Our Hands

By Susan S. Jorgenson

Loving God, we give you thanks for the gift of our hands.  Give us the grace to see our hands as you see them, as instruments of grace and life.  May the knitting of our hands be the knitting of your heart.  Use our hands, O God, to carry out your works of mercy and love.  May the shawls our hands create bring blessings to those they wrap in love and healing to those upon whom they rest. Amen.

Who Benefits

Prayer shawls are given to individuals in the hospital, nursing homes, the sick, the homebound, and other special requests.

Lap robes are given to individuals in nursing homes to provide warmth and comfort.

Scarves and hats are included in the December "Gift of Love" packages, and are also given to local families in need.

The Knit and Crochet Ministry was approached by a parishioner who works at the Preservation of Human Dignity (PHD) in Inverness to provide baby blankets for new moms who are in need of a little extra love and support.

Materials and Support

Our group has yarn, patterns, needles, and hooks available for use.  Our members are more than happy to help you learn to knit and improve your skills and techniques.
